📍 Independence Square, Port of Spain

Description

The Brian Lara Promenade, which runs the width of the city centre, complements downtown Port-of-Spain by adding a relaxed, laid back flavour to the bustling streets of the city. Originally called Plaza de la Marina, it was translated into the English Marine Square. When Trinidad became independent in 1962, the name was changed to Independence Square, and the central east-west strip was later named Brian Lara Promenade, in honour of star batsman Brian Lara. The Promenade now features free outdoor concerts, film festivals, celebration ceremonies and craft shows.
